Eating Out Some good choices available in the village and further afield. (Call ahead).
Bruce Inn (01337 857226) – Honest pub food. Banter at the bar can be earthy. Watch out for evening music and stand-up comedy.
Stag Inn (01337 858091). Good ambience. Food is on a par with the Bruce. There is a street level door.
Covenanter Hotel (01337 857224). Higher prices. Under new management.
Campbells. Competent. Coffee and light lunches.
Further Afield we have been pleased with the following watering holes (call ahead)
Drummonds in Markinch about six miles away (01592 611205). Good for carnivores. Roasts, burgers and steak done well (or well done if you wish!!) and good ambience.
Balbirnie House. Markinch. (01592 610066). Bistro is competent. Orangery is excellent at a price (but staff struggle if a wedding is also on – check). 10 mins by car.
Peat Inn. (01334 840206). One of Scotland’s top restaurants. Little chance of an evening booking but lunch is more easily secured and better value. It’s pricy but very good. Our “very special occasion” favourite. 30 mins by car.
Fettykill Fox. Glenrothes. (01592 749613). Broad choice that should please everybody at keen prices. Portions are not huge though. Look for internet deals. Kids dishes.
